At a regional Summit on October 11-13,
2001, UOSF and project partners launched the Community Open
Space Partnership, a broad based network for local action.
This diverse network is dedicated to improving the biological, social and economic
health of communities through advocacy, public education,
and coalition building.
Urban Open Space Foundation is working as part of this new network in leading comprehensive resource
planning by providing administrative support for the
Partnership. Through COSP, UOSF will work to stimulate and provide:
- Vision - We will apply and
improve COSP's Principles, a set of value statements that
define our common ground and shape a new standard for open
space decision making;
- Partnerships - We will unite traditional
and nontraditional partners in collaborative efforts that pull together
knowledge, tools, people, and funding necessary for maximizing
the benefits of open space;
- Projects - We will explore
and create
model open spaces that exemplify the Community
Open Space Partnership Working Principles;
- Advocacy - We will shape effective
legislation, policies, and institutional practices to help communities realize the full
economic, social, and environmental potential of their open
space systems; and
- Advice - We will provide practical advice for resource
planning, management and monitoring.
In Fall of 2001, UOSF sponsored the
launch of the Community Open
Space Partnership Virtual Resource Center, a clearinghouse of information for the citizen activists, business
leaders, public agency representatives, and resource managers
dedicated to improving the biological, social and economic
health of neighborhoods through green infrastructure and
land use policy reform.
